A wave of optimism is sweeping across Botswana following the official launch of the Bonno National Housing Programme, a monumental initiative set to deliver 61,000 new homes to families nationwide. President of Botswana, Advocate Duma Gideon Boko, inaugurated the ambitious program in Palapye on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, marking a pivotal moment in the nation's development.
The Bonno National Housing Programme aims to significantly address the existing housing deficit, promising to bring much-needed dignity and stability to countless households. Under this far-reaching plan, each of Botswana's 61 constituencies is slated to receive 1,000 housing units, ensuring widespread impact across urban and rural areas.
Botswana Housing Corporation, the Government's dedicated Single Housing Authority responsible for the programme's implementation, has already hit the ground running with initial construction efforts. In Palapye, 71 houses are set to begin in Extensions 7 and 11. Simultaneously, critical developments have commenced in other key locations: 174 flats are underway in Gaborone, 20 low-income units in Mabutsane, 30 low-income units in Tati Siding, and a mix of 55 low to high-income units in Matlapana, Maun.
These initial projects by the Corporation are a testament to the programme's immediate action and its commitment to improving living standards across diverse communities. The government envisions these new units not just as structures, but as foundations for stronger families and a more prosperous Botswana. Stay tuned for further updates as this transformative national housing effort gathers momentum.
