The Botswana Housing Corporation has officially handed over the newly refurbished Semolale Community Library, marking another milestone in the Corporation’s corporate social responsibility drive to empower communities through education.
The handover ceremony, held this week, celebrated the transformation of the facility into a modern, inviting space designed to nurture young minds and serve as a hub for lifelong learning.

In her keynote address, BHC Acting Chief Executive Officer, Ms. Pascaline Sefawe, described the library as a “safe space and quiet haven” for learners and residents alike. She emphasised the Corporation’s commitment to fostering a culture of knowledge, noting that the investment is intended to inspire future generations.“We believe in the power of knowledge to transform lives, and it is our hope that this library will be a place where dreams are cultivated,” Ms. Sefawe said.

The refurbishment project was initiated following a recommendation by the Bobirwa District Council, in consultation with the Corporation’s Selibe Phikwe Office. The upgrades included comprehensive infrastructure improvements, new electrical installations, modern floor tiling, air conditioning for comfort, a newly built verandah, a redesigned reception counter, and newly constructed toilets. These enhancements have not only improved the facility’s functionality but also elevated its overall ambience.

Ms. Sefawe also used the platform to remind the community of the Corporation’s primary mandate of providing housing for Batswana, particularly through the Bonno Turnkey Programme. She further encouraged eligible citizens to visit BHC offices for more information.
Accepting the refurbished facility, the Village Development Committee Chairman, Mr. Gabana Mosebola, expressed heartfelt gratitude and described the project as a welcomed development that would benefit learners, promote community pride, and enhance the village’s image.

The initiative reflects the Corporation’s belief that strong communities are built on the foundation of education and access to information. The Corporation reaffirmed its commitment to supporting similar projects that create lasting, sustainable impact and empower Batswana through knowledge.
