Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Infrastructure, Science and Technology Mr. Dikagiso Mokotedi has applauded the Corporation for its continuous engagement of local construction companies. Speaking during the official opening of the 2015 builders Expo held at Airport Junction recently, Mr Mokotedi stated that the Corporation’s engagement of local contractors has contributed immensely to the economic diversification of this country which has led to massive job creation.

He said that responsible construction industry is a pillar of any government. “It is for this reason that the government has taken a decision to embark on the economic stimulus programme through construction and other means, he said. Mr. Mokotedi also revealed that the government is on its way to craft regulations that will guide the construction affairs in Botswana.
He urged companies to desist from importing construction materials as it defeats the purpose of economic diversification. “It is through the participation of various sectors in the construction industry that massive employment can be created. We need to promote our local production,” he noted.

Held under the theme Sustainable Development, the Expo provided a unique window for the local construction industry players to meet, network, and interact with local market in order to appreciate, recognise and identify its unique needs while showcasing the widestindustry profile of various products and services offered in Botswana. As a sponsor and exhibitor, the Corporation used the opportunity to further harp on the benefits of the Sitting Tenants Campaign which encourages tenants to buy their leased BHC houses.

The 2nd Quarter draw for the on-going Sitting Tenants Campaign was held at the Expo and the BHC stall attracted a lot of attention as customers flocked the Stall with the hope that their names will be drawn for the two notable prizes of the day. However Violet Gotlamang and Tabuka Mokhalee were the lucky ones on the day as they won P5, 000 and P10, 000 respectively.
The Corporation also took the opportunity to educate and sensitise the masses about its mandate, products and services, SHHA turnkey programme and the new government housing initiatives such as Public Officers Housing Initiative, Youth housing and Instalment Purchase Scheme.
