BHC BOARD & MANAGEMENT ENGAGES THE NEW MINISTER

This morning the Board and Management of Botswana Housing Corporation met with the new Minister of Infrastructure & Housing Development Honorable Dr. Unity Dow who was recently appointed to the portfolio by His Excellency the President of the Republic of Botswana, Mr Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi. The purpose of the meeting was to introduce the BHC Board & Management as well as to appreciate the Corporation’s business, it’s mandate, achievements and challenges. In her remarks, Hon. Dr Dow challenged the Corporation to move with the times and explore green technologies in as far as housing in general is concerned.

The Chief Executive Officer of Botswana Housing Corporation, Mr Reginald Motswaiso presented on the day to day operations of the Corporation, highlighting the business, it’s expanded mandate as far as the Single Housing Authority Mandate is concerned. Motswaiso gave a brief overview of the six year strategy the Corporation embarked on with a view to put a roof over every Motswana by the year 2023. He also talked about some of the challenges affecting the business such as stagnant rentals despite the rising costs of maintenance, challenges of selling the old flats and townhouses through sectional titles as well as those affecting Government Housing Initiatives as far and SHHA Turnkey and POHI projects are concerned.

In closing Hon. Dow further challenged the Corporation to come up with priority areas which could be aligned towards improving economic activity in Botswana. She also reiterated her support to the Corporation on matters relating to improving the livelihoods of Batswana as far as housing is concerned. The meeting was attended by among others Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Infrastructure and Housing Development, Mr Dikagiso Mokotedi, Ministry’s management and the BHC Board and Management.
